The Heliconia blooms all the through the summer and they make great cut flowers: lasting 2 to 3 weeks.

Heliconia is gaining popularity in world as well as Indian market due to its cut flower-value.

It also have long vase life.

Please note that there is a lot of difference between the Heliconia & The Bird of Paradise

*** Humus Soil:

Humus soil nurtures plants two ways.
Humus creates a loose structure & at the same time holds moisture and drains well.
Humus layer creates an environment that supports living organisms that convert soil nutrients into a form that plant roots can use thus increasing soil fertility.
In a natural environment humus is continuously introduced into soil as plant debris, dead animals, and other organic matter that decomposes on the ground.
Through the action of bacteria, fungi, and other occupants of the soil like insects –worms :
these dead animals, dry leaves (organic matter) are continuously broken … into a soft, spongy layer- called the humus.
In short, Humus Layer brings the soil to life.
